Goodbye Intern Tony!

July 6, 2012

I’m a firm believer in internships. During college, I completed three internships ranging from newsroom assistant to event marketing. It was the knowledge and experience I gained during my internships, that led me to my future career and helped me discover my passion for marketing. It’s only fitting that I have the opportunity to manage the internship program at Honey Agency and help college students gain real-world experience. It’s been our pleasure to welcome students who want to learn more about marketing, social media, design or development. Recently, Robert Heally (aka Tone or Tony) joined our team during his last quarter at U.C. Davis. Tony was a tremendous help to our agency and learned a lot in the process. He is now off to Southern California and has a bright future ahead of him.

Tony sent us a recap about his time at Honey (read below):

This quarter, I had the privilege of being the Marketing Intern with the Honey Agency. As the Marketing Intern, my duties were to assist the marketing manager with everything from managing social media campaigns for both the agency and its’ clients, conduct competitor analyses, and help with the day-to-day tasks. Having recently decided I want to go into the marketing field after I graduate, the knowledge I gained from working with Honey Agency is invaluable, and I’m grateful for the experience.

Being that there are always a number of different projects at once, I was able to gain experience in everything from social media contests to research and analysis. Having no previous marketing experience, these projects taught me the different strategies businesses use to market to their customers. One of my favorite projects from the internship was learning to wireframe websites. It’s amazing to see how the designers and developers create such masterpieces from a basic wireframe.

I will walk away from this internship with a lot of marketing experience that will be directly applicable to the real world. I’ve learned that marketing is an ever-changing business, and that in order to be successful, you always need to keep up with the latest. Another thing I learned was how to prioritize my work to meet deadlines. The last thing I’ll walk away with is a sense of what marketing means today. With the rise of social media, marketing is shifting from television and print towards social media. Focus is going to be on Facebook, Twitter, and mobile. Having worked with an agency that specializes in social media marketing, I’m very grateful for the opportunity to work with them.

Best wishes to our Intern Bee!
